International Literacy Day celebrated in Karachi

KARACHI (By Manzoor Ali/ENN) International Literacy Day 2021 was organized by the Directorate of Literacy & Non-formal Education in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) & Rural Support Program. Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Minister Education and Literacy Sindh was the Chief Guest of the event; while Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Secretary, SE&LD was the guest of honour. Event attracted nearly 150 people from different walks of life.

Legal Rights Forum (LRF) team along with its Learning Facilitators, Learners, VEC members and staff of the Accelerated Learning for Girls (ALG) Project in Shikarpur also participated in the event. Education Minster-Sindh Sardar Ali Shah awarded the Certificates to a successful Elementary Class learner of LRF. At the occasion, LRF also distributed school bags among participating kids that carried stationary and one water thermos.

It was a wonderful experience to attend this event. We felt proud to hear applauds from the dais in the presence of Education Minster-Sindh Sardar Ali Shah about LRF’s recent achievements in non-formal education (NFE) and enrollment of 2500 out of school girls in its Accelerated Learning Centres in Shikarpur. Director NFE, Shagufta announced that LRF with support from Save the Children has made a history ever in Pakistan and pioneered to develop Elementary level of NFE Temporary Learning Course with the help of DCAR and implemented in its ALCs. She said that, as a result, 500 post-primary Girls were recently assessed and graduated which is a great success.
