Pay dues to media houses within 20 days or face contempt proceedings, directs Court to Sindh govt


KARACHI (ENNS) Sindh High Court ordered on Tuesday to pay all outstanding dues to media houses within 20 days while hearing the Contempt of Court Petition, filed by the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) through its Secretary General, Dr. Jabbar Khattak.

CPNE in its petition had alleged that Sindh government did not comply with the orders of the Sindh High Court issued on 30th May regarding payments of outstanding dues to Newspapers and other media outlets.

The Sindh government officials in their reply submitted before court said that Finance department released funds and, the bills were being sent to Accountant General Sindh office for disbursement including issuance of Cheques.

The officials further submitted that the Contempt of Court application should be set aside but the Division bench comprising, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Faisal Agha rejected the plea of setting aside the application, ordered to pay all dues within 20 days otherwise Contempt proceedings may be continued.

The hearing was adjourned till 20th September.
