Inter family, early marriages increase threats of disabilities, says Syed Qasim Naveed


KARACHI (ENN) Special Assistant to CM Sindh on Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar has said that inter family marriages and early childhood marriages are some of the causes of disability, beside rehabilitation of the special persons we should also think on preventive measures how to minimize disabilities in newly born children.

This he said as a chief guest while addressing in a seminar on Electoral and Political Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Pakistan here in a local hotel, organized by Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives.
He was of the opinion that we should discourage such practices in the society that caused disabilities. He said that there was a lot of misconception regarding special persons especially in rural and far flung areas of the province, adding that there was a dire need to change mind set on special persons.

Syed Qasim told that according to the Census, as many as 929400 were special persons in Sindh, out which 543416 were in Urban areas while 385984 belonged to rural areas.
He added, ‘ Like other people, special persons have also right to vote and expression of freedom and there is a need that all special persons must have their CNICs to use their right to vote and for the purpose, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities have been arranging camps in collaboration with NADRA to issue CNICs to special persons on priority basis’.

He further said that we should use latest technology for mobility of the special persons and we should also accommodate them in jobs so that they might be able to live a respectable life.
