LAHORE (ENN) WASA has built and started operation of disposal station for effluent/ sewage water next to New Covenant School System at Chak No. 214, Dawood Colony, Madina Town, Faisalabad in disregard of sanctity of human life and against all the cannons of environmental laws.
The Director General Environment Protection Agency had issued an order on 19.2.2021 barring Wasa from construction of disposal station next to the school because it would “imperil the health of the children and the nearby community”, the order expressly said. EPA order in February 2021 was cancellation of approval of the disposal station earlier in 2018 which the environment impact assessment (EIA) in 2021 rejected outright.
Principal of the New Covenant School System wrote to The News, “We bring to your kind notice a cruel act of state functionaries of WASA, Faisalabad towards the Christian Community, particularly towards students belonging to poor Christian community who are getting education in a school run by a non-government, non-profit and non-political organisation named New Covenant School System.”
The state functionaries, especially Wasa, Faisalabad kept the management of New Covenant School and other local Christian community in dark. The school management showed Wasa an alternate place where the disposal station could be built but Wasa has built a disposal station adjacent to the school despite vehement protest by the local Christian communities and their representatives who have appealed to the government to remove it immediately so that children and people living there could breathe clean air which was their right.
The disposal station is going to adversely affect and degrade the life of poor Christian citizens and pose health hazard to a large number of people.
