KARACHI (ENNS) The month of Shawwal’s moon could not be sighted in the country on Thursday; therefore Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, 16th June, announced the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The decision was announced at a press conference after a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee under the chairmanship of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman was held in Karachi for the sighting of moon.
The announcement regarding Eid-ul-Fitr was made after testimonies of moon sighting were received from different parts of the country.
Arab media cited reports of Shawwal moon sighting in Saudi Arabia. The Arab TV reported that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the kingdom on Friday.
However Turkey will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also telephoned President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday and extended Eid greetings to him in advance.
The moon-sighting committee in Japan also announced celebrating Eid on Friday.
In India, Shawwal moon could not be sighted on Thursday, hence, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, according to Indian media outlets.
